In Greene County district court a judgment for a $855 fine with a $128.25 surcharge was entered against Jason Harold Ferguson, 48, of Stratford after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent. The judgment and surcharge can be satisfied with 100 hours of community service. Ferguson was committed to the custody of the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for two years. Custody was suspended and he will be on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He must pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $195.11 court costs. Jordan A. Patterson, 23, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. A judgment was entered for a $430 civil penalty and he was placed on probation for one year to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He must pay an amount not to exceed $500 for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $180 court costs. A charge in magistrate court of possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed. Tyler Craig Schrier, 27, of Perry was sentenced to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of burglary- third degree. He was also sentenced to five years in prison on a charge of theft- second degree. Both prison terms were suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for three years. The prison terms will be suspended if he serves them in the future. He was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge on each count; the fines and surcharges were suspended. A charge of burglary- third degree was dismissed. Abigail Leeann Russell, 28, of Jefferson was sentenced to two years in prison after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of failure to comply with sex offender registry requirements- aiding and abetting. The prison term was suspended and she was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for two years. Russell was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. The court found her unable to pay restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and court costs. A charge of child endangerment- registered sex offender was deferred. Dakota Michael Gustin, 33, of Cherokee was sentenced to be in the custody of the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for a term not to exceed two years after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine- second offense. The term was suspended and he is to be on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Gustin was fined $855 with a $128,25 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay restitution not to exceed $1,400 for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. A charge of possession of marijuana- second offense was dismissed. Larissa Marie Beaty, 41, of Ankeny was sentenced to one year in jail after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred- habitual offender. She was also sentenced to one year in jail on a charge of possession of methamphetamine. The jail sentences were suspended and she was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. They will be consecutive if she serves them at some time. She was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge on the driving charge and $430 with a $64.50 surcharge on the meth charge; all were suspended. Devin Julian Villalobos, 22, of Jefferson was sentenced to 60 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. The jail term was suspended. If it is ever imposed it will be consecutive to the terms in two other cases. Villalobos was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation and he must complete 100 hours of community service. Harmony Nicole Thompson, 26, of Jefferson was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for two years after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. Thompson was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge; both were suspended. She was given a deferred judgment on a controlled substance violation. Two counts of unlawful possession of a prescription drug were dismissed. Bridgette Nicole Perez, 35, of Scranton was sentenced to 180 days in jail after she pleaded guilty to a charge of assault causing bodily injury, amended from domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness. All but five days of the jail time was suspended and she was placed on probation to Boone/Greene Probation for one year. Perez was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. Court costs were $100. Justin Joe Downs, 38, of Churdan was sentenced to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of dominion/control of firearm/offensive weapon by domestic abuse offender. He was sentenced to two years in prison on a charge of possession of methamphetamine- second offense. The prison terms are consecutive. He was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge on the firearms charge; he was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge on the methamphetamine charge. Fines and surcharges were suspended. Paige Denice Hedgpeth, 27, of Grand Junction was granted a deferred judgment after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. She must pay a $1,250 civil penalty of $1,250. She was placed on probation to Boone/Greene Probation for one year and she must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. Two counts of child endangerment were dismissed. Court costs were $100. A companion case in magistrate court in which Hedgpeth was charged with one count of child endangerment was dismissed. Persons pleaded not guilty as follows: Austin James Hill, 35, of West Des Moines, gambling- avoid set off and conspiracy to commit non-forcible felony; Jason Lee Miller, 45, of Boone, possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana; Austin Taylor Lawrence, 24, of Urbandale, possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of prescription drug; Jacob R. Vreugdenhil, 27, of Grand Junction, criminal mischief- second degree, and trespass causing injury or damage greater than $300; Michael Lee Eastman, 50, of Jefferson, possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense; and Emmanual Sang, 43, of Des Moines, operating while intoxicated. Trial dates were set for June 18 for every defendant except Eastman; his trial date was set for May 14.
Cases were initiated in district court during the week ending April 5 as follows: Darrin James Gordon, 29, of Jefferson, operating while intoxicated; Suanne Elaine Winters, 52, of Bayard, operating while intoxicated and driving while license revoked, and in a separate case, driving while license revoked; and Jacob R Vreugdenhil, 55, of driving while license barred.
